Interviewer

“You have three urgent bugs and one engineer. What do you do?”

Answer

Fix the bug that blocks paying customers first, then the one with no workaround.

In your own words

  • I'd rank them by who's blocked and whether there's a workaround.
  • Money at risk beats the loudest complaint.

Steps

  1. Size each bug: users affected, revenue at risk — why: impact, not noise, sets the order.
  2. Ship a workaround for the others today — why: it buys time without a second engineer.
  3. Tell support and stakeholders the order — why: nobody is surprised.

Why this is right

It's the standard impact-and-urgency call, and it shows you'd communicate, not just fix.

Key benefits

Help you can use mid-sentence.

How it works

From question to answer.

  1. It hears the interviewer

    Call audio is transcribed on your Mac. No bot joins.

  2. It spots the question

    Automatically — or press ⌥⌘R any time.

  3. You see the answer

    In about a second, bottom line first.

  4. It keeps up

    Follow-ups build on everything said so far.

The answer format

Every answer, the same clear shape.

Examples

Real questions, real answers.

Each kind of question gets the format that fits it.

BehaviouralSTAR answer from your CV

Interviewer

“Tell me about a time you disagreed with your manager.”

CVGrowth Analyst, Acme Retail · 2023–2025

Answer

Tell the pricing-page story: you disagreed with data, not opinion — and the launch got better.

  1. SMy manager wanted to launch a new pricing page two weeks before our biggest sale.
  2. TI thought our test was too small to trust, and had to say so without blocking the launch.
  3. AI proposed a one-week 50/50 test and shared the numbers with him every morning.
  4. RThe new page cut sign-ups by 4%. We fixed it, launched a week later, and he asked me to run the next test.

Interviewer

“Given an array of numbers, find two that add up to a target.”

Answer

One pass with a hash map: O(n) time, O(n) space.

two_sum.pyPython
def two_sum(nums, target):
    seen = {}
    for i, n in enumerate(nums):
        if target - n in seen:
            return [seen[target - n], i]
        seen[n] = i
    return []

Why A double loop is O(n²). The map trades a little memory for a single pass.

Interviewer

“How would you grow Monzo's savings product?”

Answer

Grow balances, not sign-ups: make saving automatic for people who already bank there.

Steps

  1. Clarify the goal: total savings balances in 12 months — why: it stops you chasing vanity sign-ups.
  2. Find the gap: active customers with no savings pot — why: they already trust the app.
  3. Three ideas: round-ups on by default, a payday prompt, goal-based pots — why: each removes a decision.

How you'd measure it

Share of active customers with a funded pot. Guardrail: current-account churn.

Screen helpPress ⌥⌘S

Merge intervals. Merge all overlapping intervals and return the result. Input: [[1,3],[2,6],[8,10]]

Answer

Sort by start, then sweep once: O(n log n).

In your own words

  • Once it's sorted, an overlap can only be with the last interval I kept.
  • So I either stretch that one, or start a new one.

FAQ

Interview Copilot questions

How does it know a question was asked?

It transcribes the interviewer on your Mac and notices when they finish a question. It answers the interviewer only, not you. Press ⌥⌘R to answer what was just said at any time.

How fast are the answers?

The answer starts in about a second, bottom line first. Reasoning mode (⌥⌘T) takes a little longer for harder problems.

Can it use my CV?

Yes. Add an interview with your CV, the job description and notes, and pick it before you start. Every answer then draws on it. Interview Prep.

Which call apps does it work with?

Any app that plays audio on your Mac: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet in your browser, Webex, Slack huddles and the rest.

Will the interviewer see it if I share my screen?

No. macOS keeps the Finalist AI panel out of screen sharing, recordings and screenshots of the shared screen — whole screen or one window. You can check this yourself with a test share. Stealth Mode.
